Beat The Heat

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever lived through a hotter summer than this year’s! A step outside my house immediately gives me a heat stroke and as much as I hate it, I’ve been turning on the AC more than I should! But one of the country’s newest hottest restaurants, Kuya J has come up a way to lure people who are allergic to heat out of their houses through their newest Halo-Halo!

Filipino summers are not complete with this iconic dessert. From manang’s halo-halo in the street to the famous halo-halo in hotel x, halo-halo is ever present in our lives. Kuya J throws his hat into the very populated ring with a very unique take on halo-halo.

How do I even begin to describe it?

Well, imagine Taiwan’s famous shaved ice paired with the traditional components of a halo-halo. THAT is what you get with Kuya J’s halo-halo. Unlike many halo-halo’s that use chunky crushed ice, Kuya J’s halo-halo uses extra rich, creamy, ice. It’s so rich and creamy I can’t tell the separation the milk and ice components because both meld into one delightful glob of milky-ice.

To make the milky-ice even more perfect, Kuya J’s halo-halo contains an array of sweet and meaty macapuno string, red and green nata de coco, caramelized saba, velvety ube jam, and glazed langka.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, the halo-halo is topped with a thick chunk of leche flan, sprinkled with crunchy corn flakes, and drizzled with ube cream. What a delight!

If you’re looking for something different yet still familiar, and of course, something to beat the intenzzzz AF heat, Kuya J’s halo-halo gotchuuu. Well, its creamy and refreshing goodness gets me to brave the heat just for a bowl… It’s that good. Of course, I still have a soft spot for the traditional kind of halo-halo but for now, Kuya J’s halo-halo has captured my heart.

Oh, btdubs! Their halo-halo is frikin’ huge. I split ONE order (P99) with my mom AND aunt. And we all still struggled to finish it!
