Yabu’s Newest Offerings

DSCF3051

Las week, I was invited to try out Yabu’s latest new menu offerings. For a limited time only, the country’s pioneer katsu restaurant created 4 new items and pairings. And because of my intense FOMO, I tried all of them! Thank God I brought my vacuum cleaner aka Josh to help me finish everything. Here’s what I had:

Crispy Ebi Aioli

I arrived at the Yabu dead hungry and let me tell you how happy my tastebuds were at the first contact with these delicious, plump, and crispy prawns. I’m such a sucker of aioli; especially when it’s spicy. I’m surprised that a dish centered on spicy aioli only came out now because people have been missing out in life without this match made in heaven. It’s even made more perfect with a drizzle of lemon to cut through the mayonnaise.

Just look at that shrimp! This was one of the moments when I wish I wasn’t eating with a companion (sorry, Josh!) because I could have ate every single one of them myself.

Hire Kurobuta

Kurobuta, also known as the Black Berkshire pig, is the world’s finest pork. It is called the “kobe beef” of pork due to its softness, flavor and rich marbling. The new Hire Kurobuta is made with thick and juicy premium Black Berkshire pork tenderloin, Served with sweet and tangy karashi sauce on the side.

This is Yabu’s answer to it’s famous counterpart’s signature offering. I have to say, it’s very similar to it’s counterpart (which I shall not be naming to keep you guessing!). It’s definitely more tender than Yabu’s regular katsu. It’s worth trying with it’s special Karashi sauce but I personally prefer to pair it with Yabu’s original rich tonkotsu sauce. I guess, old habits die hard.

Ebi Patty

I fell in love with Yabu’s Ebi Patty when they first released it with their Yabu Signature burger. At the time, they released a mozzarella cheese stuffed burger and the ebi patty burger but my heart was sold to the Ebi patty burger. If you haven’t tried it yet, GO NOW. Thank me later.

When I found out that their best selling ebi patty has been transformed into katsu form, I was overyjoyed. There’s just something about black tiger prawns and aioli that makes them such a good pair. Naturally, I loved the Ebi Patty tonkotsu but just between you and me, my heart still belongs to its original burger form. For those who love rice more than bread though, this is a great alternative.

Hire & Oyster Katsu Set.

This set includes Yabu’s original katsu paired with two mutant oyster tonkotsu. I was already gasping for air because of all the food that I’ve stuffed into myself by the time I got to trying this set. Still, one bite of the plump oyster katsu sent my eyes rolling in delight. With a light squeeze of a lemon and a dip into the tonkotsu sauce, my heart (and tummy) was in utter happiness. Of course, Yabu’s original hire katsu did not disappoint.

Overall

Overall, I loved all of Yabu’s newest offerings. If I were to rank my favorites it would be like this: Crispy Ebi Aioli, Hire & Oyster Katsu Set, Ebi Patty, and Hire Kurobuta. I love how Yabu constantly keeps with the times by releasing new items to love every once in a while. I can’t wait for what they have in store for us next!

xoxo,
