5 Things You Should Know About Tea Tree Oil

    OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

    Hi everyone!

Today I’d like to share with you my secret weapon against acne: tea tree oil. I’m genuinely grateful for being blessed with parents who both do not have acne prone skin. I’m saying this based on my experience but my mother’s and father’s sides of the family both do not have acne prone skin (THANK GOD) which is why I don’t get acne very often. Once in a while, pimples DO appear on my face. I used to just let their pimple lives run their course on my face because they weren’t bad enough to make me want to find a way to make them disappear. Until one time, I had a huge pimple on my chin and it hurt really badly. I’ve been hearing about tea tree oil and how it can help acne disappear so I tried it and it worked! :)

I decided to compile 10 fast facts about tea tree oil just to make this post easier to read. :)

    1. Tea tree oil is produced from the leaves of the tea tree which is native to Australia.
    2. Tea tree oil has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antiseptic and antiviral properties.
    3. The tea tree oil breaks through the dirt which causes acne and the anti-bacterial properties in the oil kills the bacteria that causes acne.
    4. When used, less people experience itching, stinging, burning, and dryness which are some of the side affects of using benzoyl peroxide.
    5. It’s a natural remedy which can be used to treat dandruff, head lice, athlete’s foot, yeast infections and more.

    Tips:

    • The tee tree oil that I use is from the Body Shop and it’s already diluted and may be applied directly onto the skin.
    • If you purchase pure tea tree oil, make sure to dilute it with water because tea tree oil in its purest from may cause irritation, redness, blistering.
    • You may use your finger, a cotton swab, or a cotton ball to apply to the affected area.
    • Some people add drops of tea tree oil to lotion or aloe vera gel and then apply it to the affected areas.
    • Some people add it to their baths, moisturizer and even cleanser.
    • I prefer to do spot treatments and apply only on the affected areas.

    Final Thoughts

I’m not a dermatologist and I’m saying this based on my personal research and personal experience. People’s skin react to products differently so you should try this at your own risk. I’m not prone to allergies which is why I wasn’t so scared to try this. If you have cystic acne or really intense acne, you may have to go to a dermatologist for that. Overall, tea tree oil really does wonders for my occasional breakouts and it has worked for some of my frieds who use it as well. I do recommend it for those who have light to moderate acne. :) I’m so glad that I finally have power over my pimples. (bwahahaha *evil laugh of triumph*)

How do you treat your pimples? Do you use tea tree oil as well? Let me know in your comments below!

    Review: Fuwarie Styling Mist

    OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve never been the type of girl to do a lot of things with my hair. I don’t really know how to curl my hair using a curling iron so I just flat iron my hair. I flat iron my hair a lot which is why I was so happy when I read about the Fuwarie Styling Mist in various beauty blogs all over the web. I was in Hong Kong when my eyes laid on the actual product. I found out that it was cheaper (around php350) than the ones being sold here for around php450. I don’t curl my hair so I only bought the mist for straightening the hair and the mist for helping the hair curve inwards.

    Product:

It’s supposed to set the hair and keep it straight. It has amino acid which is supposed to repair the hair cuticles to produce shinier hair. IT protects hair from UV rays and has a fruity scent.

    What I Like:

    • it comes in a cute spray bottle
    • a nice amount of product comes out from the nozzle
    • the scent of the product is not bad; it does not bother my nose at all
    • the product does not feel tacky ir heavy after I ironed my hair
    • my iron did not “sizzle” when I used it on my hair after I sprayed the product (this makes me feel like my hair is protected haha)
    • made my hair straighter than usual
    • made my hair shiny

    What I don’t like:

    • none really. :)
my hair with nothing on it
inward curl mist on the left, straightening mist on the right
    Final Thoughts

I really like this styling mist. I don’t think there’s much of a difference in the results that were produced by the straightening mist and the inward curl mist though. If you like to straighten your hair, you’re good with either of these. They sold cheaper in HK but PHP450 from the Beauty BAr is a good deal as well if you aren’t going to HK anytime soon. :)

The Beautiful Women In My Life

Screen shot 2013-04-22 at 11.23.09 PM

    Hi everyone!

Today, we were tasked to do the makeup of mature or aging women and  I was able to do the makeup of my mom and my grandmother. I just want to share some of the photos I took today. :) It was such an exciting experience because my mom and grandma always let me do their makeup and I finally had a chance to let my worked be judged and improved by my teacher, Ms. G or Ms. Georgina. :)

First, I want to talk about my mother  dearest. I have to admit that I’ve always been a daddy’s girl but as time passed, I have grown closer to my mom. She reads my blog so I won’t make this too dramatic. I just want to let her know that I really look up to her and she has been an amazing role model to me. She has taught me to be strong, independent, and wise about the decisions I make in my life. She has always been there to support me and push me to do the things that I love. I wouldn’t have grown to be what I am today without her. :)

My guama has to be one of the coolest granny’s ever. She’s very liberal. Sometimes, I think she’s more liberal than my mom. hahaha! She gives me and my mom countless of beauty tips which is why she looks so young! I actually feel like I fell in love with makeup because of her makeup colelction. I used to go to her room and stare at her makeup and play with her eyelash curler. hehe. The place where she does her makeup is super well lighted and is surrounded y mirrors! It used to be cosmetic heaven to me. <3

I taught my grandma to do the head tilt. HAHAHA

she volunteered to pose with the background! hehe such a cute granny. <3

I used a lot of neutral colors for their looks. I also made sure that their faces were moisturized very well (to make the foundation apply nicely) and I didn’t use a ton of shimmery eyeshadow because shimmery eyeshadows do not look very flattering on aging women. :) Tell me what you think in your comments below! <3

    Summer 2013

    image_1366389995122891

    Hi everyone!

If you’re an avid reader of my blog, you may have noticed that I haven’t been so consistent with my blog posts. That is because I have been taking classes for a certificate course in makeup artistry in MUD (makeu-up designory Manila) located in Serendra. I’ve been taking classes 4 days a week from 10am-6pm. It’s super tiring because I kinda have to stand the whole time but it’s a whole lot of fun too! My makeup lessons kinda made me realize how much it’s taking up my time and there’s just never enough time in the world for all the activites I wanna do! haha So i’m going to list down some kinds of summer bucket list here on blog so that I’ll be forced to try to do eveyrhting on my list! I’ll update you on what I was able to do by the end of the summer. ;)

    MAXIE’S SUMMER BUCKET LIST:

    1. make the most out of my certificate makeup course
    2. get back to having my mind set into eating HEALTHY!!!! (i’m always so conflicted cuz I LOVE FOOD. :( There was a time when I was so obsessed with having a healthy lifestyle until I kinda lost my super strict mind set.  people say that you can eat yummy food that’s healthy as well but NO. Those are lies!! A REALLY GOOOOD cupcake has to have a ton of oil, butter, sugar etc. So to eat healthily, you just really have to get used to eating the not-so-fun food. :( </3)
    3. Learn how to make siomai! my aunt’s cook makes THE BEST, I mean the BEEEST siomai ever! Everything is made from scratch. I’ll probably blog about it if I get to have a “learn how to make siomai day”.
    4. watch my tv shows. (hehe my happiness is super shallow; I watch a ton of american tv shows!)
    5. watch my korean tv shows  (yes, im a kpop fan.)
    6. work out more (i used to work out almost everyday. </3)
    7. try out yoga
    8. acrobatic pole dancing (HAHAHA)
    9. try as many ramen restos as i can!!!! i’m seriously on a ramen craze i don’t know why! I’ve tried, ukokkei ramen ron, mintsuyado seimen @ jupiter street, and kenji tei @ gb5)
    10. fly a kite (seriously haha)
    11. READ! (i need suggestions! comment them below? :) )
    12. learn how to bake more items!
    13. hang out more with my little prince (my dog. haha. he’s been “tampo” with me recently. k I’m not trying to be conyo. i don’t know the english word for tampo)
    14. post as much blog posts as i can!!! yay yay yay.
    15. i’ve been wanting to do so much stuff but I can’t rememeber them right now. :)) i’ll update this when I remember!
To end, I just wannashare some looks that I’ve been doing: (sorry for the grainy photos; they were taken from a phone cuz I wasn’t able to bring my camera)
    Natural eye makeup
Summer eye makeup (i just bumped up the intensity of the first look and added some stuff)
I actually got my friend, Justine to model for me but the photos are with her. :(
Thanks, Eunice for modeling for me! Thanks Joshfor being my collage maker hahahaha.
What are YOU doing for summer? let me know on the comments below! <3

    Summer Essentials

    OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is a bit late but I figured that it’s better late than never. :) I was thinking of blog topics and I decided to make a summer essentials post because it’s super timely. I’m not saying that one should keep on buying new products every season but it’s important to adjust one’s makeup and beauty products according to the weather/season.

I’ve listed down 12 summer essentials:

                 1. Sunblock

    Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion

This is favorite sunblock for the face because my face doesn’t feel oily upon application. I cannot stress enough how important it is to apply sun block every day! If you don’t want premature wrinkles, suns spots, and early sign of skin aging, PUT SUNBLOCK EVERYDAY.

OTHER OPTIONS: Neutrogena has good sunblock too!
    2. Moisturizer
Shiseido The Skincare Day Moisture  protection and Celeteque Facial Moisturizer
Always keep your face hydrated! My go-to moisturizer is the Shiseido one but I recently purchased the Celeteque one and I’m like it so far! It’s less than 300 bucks and it’s a lot cheaper than my Shiseido one.
                  3. Lip Balm
    Carmex
Moisturizing your face isn’t enough; you should also give some love to your lips! :)
              4. Primer
    MUD Face Primer
A face primer is a must for those who absolutely need to apply liquid foundation. This keeps your foundation in place.
                 5. BB Cream/ Foundation (light coverage)
    Etude House BB Magic Cream

I personally like to apply as little makeup as I can when the weather is super hot. I’d rather just conceal the imperfection on my skin than put on foundation or bb cream all over my face. However, I know that some of you can’t avoid wearing foundation, go for a light BB cream or a foundation with a light coverage.

     6. Powder (powder foundation or loose powder)
    Laura Mercier Tranlucent Powder
Don’t forget to set your BB Cream/ foundation with a powder to keep everything in place! For those who don’t ike wearing BB creams or liquid foundations, you may use a powder foundation to even out your skin tone. I don’t use powder foundations which is why my picture here is only a translucent powder.
Other options:  Ben Nye Banana luxury powder
      7. Cream Eyeshadow
MAC Paint pots in Rubenesque or construtivist
Cream shadows are good because they last longer than normal eyeshadows. You may also use these as bases for you powder shadow. I prefer to use these as an over color on the lid and then I’ll finish the look by liing my eyes and putting on mascara.
Other options: Maybelline, Benefit and MUF has good cream shadows!
    8. Cream Blush
Revlon Photoready Flushed Rougissant 200 and Make-up Designory Cream blush in Tulip
Cream blushes last longer than powder blushes! Choose a color that suits your skin and apply with your fingers.
other options: MUF cream blush, Stila convetibel color, Benefit fine one one
    9. Bronzer
    NARS Laguna
A bronzer is perfect for those who can’t go to the beach and achieve a sun-kissed glow.
Other options: Milani Baked bronzer, Benefit 10, wet n wild bornzer
     10. liquid liner
    K-palette 24 hour liquid liner
I find that liquid liners tend to last longer than gel liners and especially pencil liners.
Other options: Maybelline Liquid liner, Stila liquid liner
    11. vibrant lipsticks
    MAC Outrageously fun lippie
Nothing screams S-U-M-M-E-R more than vibrant lips! Take your pick from different shades of pinks, magentas, and oranges!
other options: Revlon, Maybelline, IN2IT, Etude House, etc
    12. Mascara
Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus
Waterproof mascaras are a must to open up those peepers!
Other options: just choose you trusty mascara and you’re good to go! :)
So that’s my summer essentials! Tell me yours in the comments below. <3

    OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

    Hello loves!

I started taking photos of the the items  that I hauled when I was in HK. I had a box full of unopened items from my US trip so I decided to take photos of them as well!

    LOTD: Prom 2013

    OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Josh and I ate dinner at Nolita a few weeks back and we saw high schoolers walking around high street in their prom garb. We started reminiscing about our respective prom memories when we were in high school then he had a crazy idea of wanting to go to “prom” with me. Haha. So he finally set a date but didn’t tell give me a clue on what his plans were until it actually happened! :)

I didn’t have time to get a gown made so I had to make do with what I had. I recently bought a dress from Apartment 8 wihtout having any idea where I was going to wear it. When Josh told me of his super vague plans and with the help of my DAD (fashion guru daw siya. pagbigyan) and my girlfriend Abi, I knew that it was the perfect dress perfect for the night.  Here’s the look I came up with:

    earrings from F21

    my fotd:

I took this right before I left. I look more decent here! haha

with the sweetest! :) thank you for such a memorable “prom” night.

So I was walking around in my semi formal outfit with a huge polaroid hanging on my wrist just because I felt like we weren’t going  have another opportunity to get all dressed up any time soon. :)

Review: MAC Archie’s Girls Collection Daddy’s Little Girl

    OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I always try my best to purchase at least one item from every MAC collection. I’ve started following the MAC collections when the MAC Hey Sailor collection came out last year. I can’t say that I was a die hard fan of Archie Comics when I was younger. However, I knew that I wanted to get my hands on the MAC Archie’s Girls collection the moment I found out about it just because I’ve grown fond of collecting MAC lippies in special packaging. They add such a nice splash of color to my lippie collection! :)

I’d just like to share how I was able to buy this lipstick! I found out that it was launching in Shang-Rila Plaza Mall last Saturday from my friend, Kate of MAC Trinoma. I’m always late when it comes to collection launches so I made sure to do everything right for this collection! know how MAC fanatics in the Philippines can get. Ideally, every time a collection is launched, MAC fanatics have to line up right when to store opens to get a number and RESERVE their items. They then have to wait until the after the formal launch in the afternoon to be able to purchase and bring home their items.  I had class in the morning so I couldn’t reserve my items myself.  So, my loving mother agreed to let one of her employees reserve my items for me. I went to shangrila plaza at 8am (right before me class) just to give our employee instructions and he waited for almost 2 hours for the mall to open. He was 12th in line despite the fact that he already waited for the mall to open. HAHA

    Product

MAC Daddy’s little girl is a purplish fuschia pink lipstick. It has blue undertones and has a satin finish. And yes, it is limited edition.

    What I Love:

This product has a very creamy texture and applies like a dream! I also really like the shade because this is the first pink lipstick that I have in the purple/magenta family. The pigmentation is also very good. I get to apply a nice amount of product on my lips even with just one swipe. It has a nice wearing time too; it stayed on my lips for around 5 hours. It comes i with mac signature scent: a faint scent of vanilla. :)

    What I don’t like:

NONEE. I really like this lipstick!!

    Final Thoughts

This lipstick is a treat to have in my collection. It’s also perfect for the summer/spring season! It’s time to let the wine and Burgundy shades take a backseat and let the pinks and fuchsias run the show! this shade might be sold out now but I recommend that you get one if you still can. If you don’t have a similar shade yet and if you want to try something bold and bright, then this lippie is for you. <3

    gorgeous color~~~

What did you haul from the collection? :) Let me know in the comments below!! :)
