Boracay Revisited

DSCF3457

The last time I got to visit Boracay was about 7 years ago and I was in 2nd year high school. Needless to say,  I haven’t been able to visit Boracay as a full grown adult. Haha! During the recent years, I always hear mixed reactions from friends. The bad are often about Boracay being overcrowded, over commercialized, etc. But of course, a lot of friends still say it’s an awesome destination for food tripping, water sports, and the infamous party scene at night. Like I said, I haven’t been there as a legal adult so when I was given the chance to explore the country’s most famous white sand beach, I went for it! If you want to know more about my experience, read on! :)

The last time I was in Boracay, I was located in a hotel at Station 1. This time, I stayed in Tides Hotel. Located right at the heart of Boracay: D’mall. I’m a HUGE foodie, and being able to step out of my hotel and see food choices left and right is definitely a good start to my day.

Upon arrival, Tides’s stunning minimalist white interiors immediately planted butterflies in the Insta-addict in me. The hotel’s interiors is composed of white, wood, greens (from manicured trees), and a hint of black–––basically, everything that instantly puts me in a relaxed, tranquil mood.

Here’s how my room looked like. Yes, I stayed in this huge room all by myself. My room had two super comfy double beds. I stayed there for two nights and slept on on bed each night!

The toilet and bath tub was very interesting. The bath tub is separated from the toilet, and it’s housed in its own wooden “room”. It definitely sets the mood for a night of relaxation. ;) The toilet on the other hand has it’s own enclosure too. They whole layout is pretty smart! It lets people who have companions enjoy each feature without having to bother each other.

I was also greeted with a pass that included everything I needed:

  • 10% discount to the following restaurants: Kaon (Tides’ In-house rstaurant. You must order their salpicao. OMG. They have awesome Boodle Fight Deals too!), Solstice, Epic (Tides’ sister company and the hottest club in Boracay), Café Del Sol, Hama, P&P Tattoo, and Aria.
  • Beach Towel Card for when you lounge at Epic’s beach beds
  • 20% Discount on Full Body Massage from Tides’ In House Spa, Surrender Day Spa.
  • Unlimited Gym Pass at Tides’ Fitness Center
  • 2 complimentary drinks at Tides’ Roofdeck Pool and Lounge.

I found this on my bedside table. So many activities, so little time!

We started our day with a Boodle fight at Kaon, Tides’ signature restaurant. It was heavenly!!! Unforunately, I wasn’t able to take a photo because my camera got low batt and I had to leave it in the room to charge (zzzz).

Next, we hopped on the Boracay Suncruiser. It’s the only part cruise on the Island that has a super slide that let’s you jump right into the azure ocean! It also has a two story high jump-off pad for the thrill seekers. ;)

For happy hour and dinner we went to Epic. Epic’s definitely my favorite place to party in Boracay. But what people don’t know is that they have the longest happy hour in the Island: 4pm-10pm! And, they have an awesome dinner menu. Here’s what we had:

Of course, like any other single in her 20’s, I had to check out the party scene (even if all my friends know I’m a big #lola). I was in Boracay for a totaly of four nights, and the only place I partied at was Epic. ;) The crowd’s super cool, the music’s great (Kat Dj’s one of their resident Djs), and most of all the drinks are reasonably priced.

The next day, our first agenda was breakfast at Kaon. The breakfast spread had an equal amount of local and continental food. From an assortment of cereal, lugaw, Filipino dishes, omelette station, pancakes, bacon, fresh fruits, fresh fruit juice, coffee, and more. There’s bound to be something for everyone.

Next, we headed to Mandala Spa and Resort Villa for a morning yoga session to start our day right.

It  was followed by a super healthy but yummy and filling meal at the Spa’s in house restauarant: Prana Restaurant.

After a nap, we headed out again for merienda and happy our to have the two of the most Instagrammed dishes in Boracay: Quattro Formaggio pizza and oyster sisig at Two Seasons. All my friends just had those, but I just HAD to order garlic rice. ;)

To cap off the day, we headed back to the hotel for a lovely massage at the Surrender Day Spa! I wasn’t able to take photos inside because I was in full on relaxation mode but OMG. The massage was SO good. I normally have apprehensions when it comes to oil massages because I hate the feeling afterwards. But the therapist told me that their oil was different and I wouldn’t feel sticky afterwards. She even demonstrated it on my arm. O M G guys. It’s like my skin absorbed it right away! Of course, the oily residue didn’t 100% come off, but I DEFINITELY felt less oily than I normally did. I didn’t even feel the need to be wiped down with a towel soaked with alcohol like I normally do. :)

Our third day was our final day. </3 Before our flight, we had some time to spare so I decided to head out to the roof deck and work on my “tan”. I also used my complimentary drink passes because it’s never too early for a drink! ;) haha I’m just kidding. I like drinking pretty looking things. :)

We  flew in and out of Boracay via Sky Jet, the only carrier that offers the fastest flight to Boracay and other destinations as well! Imagine getting to Boracay in 35 minutes. How amazing right? It’s also nice that they offer complimentary snack and refreshments while on board. ;)

Overall, I had such a wonderful time rediscovering Boracay as a legal adult! I’ve been dealing with some personal issues recently which lead to me losing 15 pounds. And I guess the bright side of it for me was that I got to wear swimsuits and feel good in them! It was really liberating to feel good in your own body. I used to hate going to beaches because of my poor self-image but this time around, I was really able to enjoy the sun, sand, and sea! We were there during the lean season, which I honestly prefer because the crowd was just right. The weather was perfect. The food is insane. While some people prefer remote islands, the foodie in me will always pick Boracay. Hello, remote islands often = super simple food. hahaha! I cannot deal.

If you want to experience something similar to my trip, do check out this awesome promo by Tides and Skyjet! For as low as 11,000, enjoy 3days /2nights stay in Boracay. Flight, accomodations, terminal fees, land and sea roundtrip transfers, and daily buffet breakfast included!
